Culinary Restrictions

On this page I collect the culinary restrictions of people that I have cooked for at a point after which I started collecting them. If you are logged in you should be able to see what, if anything, I have on you. Otherwise you will only see my own here, which I will try to keep up to date, but ideally ask me to verify before you make anything.

Please inform me if anything about you is outdated, since I will decide on what I cook based on this information, usually without consulting further with you.

Importantly I have held for a long time that if you won’t eat something if it is placed in front of you, then it is a culinary restriction, no matter why that is! If you dislike things to the point where you won’t eat them they are a culinary restriction. Even if you are merely unhappy but will eat it, I’d still want to know it here.

For practical purposes I will however ask that you tell me the reason. This is not because I won’t respect certain reasons less than others, but because it helps me understand where the problem lies and what is acceptable with regards to things like cross-contamination: If you don’t eat meat out of ethical reasons but like the taste and would consider eating meat that would otherwise be thrown away, I might warm vegetarian and meat sausages in the same pot, whereas I won’t do that if find the resulting taste disgusting. If you merely dislike the taste of peanuts, I may still hand them to people next to you and find an alternative for you; if you have a severe peanut allergy, I would make sure that everyone knows not to even think about opening anything that could put peanut-dust into the air.

At some point I may turn this into a more systematic database with fields, but for now this is just a free text. Contact me on Signal with any updates that may be necessary.

  • No Mushrooms
    • Not sure why; maybe the texture, since it’s usually find in sauces; though it might have evolved to something more of a phobia at this point. In any case I won’t eat them, but it can be okay if they are large and easily avoided.
  • No very hot spices
    • Just not my kind of masochism. 😉
  • No pork steaks
    • Not the biggest fan of the taste and general not feeling great about it. ⇒ Possibly negotiable if you have to, but I’d prefer if you could just give me beef or chicken instead.)
  • No olives
    • Simple dislike; fine if I can just leave them out and oil is no problem at all.
  • Preference for vegan over non-vegan milk.
    • Don’t see the point of the latter, when the former is a clearly more ethical alternative option.
    • This is definitely not a hard rule, but primarily a note of what I tend to buy for others and what I’d prefer you buy for me, if and when you buy for me.

I am willing to socially drink alcohol and consume large amounts of caffeine, but don’t take any other drugs.
